Rising Romance will look to build on a strong first up effort as one of the class mares nominated for the 2017 Emancipation Stakes at Rosehill.

Rising Romance resumed well three weeks ago and can build upon the effort in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Hayes-Dabernig-trained mare is the third highest rated runner nominated for the $200,000 event, only behind the likes of First Seal and Dixie Blossoms of the 15 nominated.

2017 EMANCIPATION STAKES: RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Emancipation Stakes is a Group 2 race for fillies and mares conducted by the Australian Turf Club at Rosehill Gardens.

The Emancipation Stakes was introduced in 1985 and is run under set weight conditions with penalties. The race is named in honour of the former champion mare Emancipation.

The Emancipation Stakes was run at Randwick from 1985 until 2013 when the race distance was 1600 metres. The Emancipation Stakes has been run at Rosehill since 2014 over 1500 metres.

The Emancipation was a Listed Race from 1985 to 1994 and Group 3 from 1995 to 1998. The Emancipation Stakes was upgraded to Group 2 status in 1999.

The 2017 Emancipation Stakes will be run at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday March 25 over 1500 metres for $200,000 prizemoney.

Notable winners of the Emancipation Stakes include Sea Pictures, Balmoral, Ice Cream Sundae, Romanee Conti, Hysterical, Staging, Miss Zoe, Perfect Promise, Fantasia, Hot Danish, Sacred Choice and the dual winners Skyerush (2012-13) and Catkins Horseform (2014-15).

The 2016 Emancipation Stakes was was won by Zanbagh Horseform from Supara with Amicus third.
